Why - The Story?
Throughout our careers in ministry we have had the joy of working with teens, college students and adults in group homes, churches, retreats, and on college campuses. Two things are consistent across all generations. There is a hunger to meet, as Kenda Creasy Dean writes, “a soul-shaking, heart-waking, world-changing God we can fall in love with…” Sadly so often we hear that the Bible is confusing, boring and just plain hard to understand. Most people are surprised to hear that we agree with them. The Bible is not easy to read, but it is essential reading for all who want to know God more fully and live the abundant life promised to us as friends of God. The good news is that our church has decided to sponsor an exciting campaign designed to help us understand and connect with our God.
What is - The Story?
The Story is a 31-week church wide campaign, beginning in September of this year, designed to aid individuals of all ages in learning the Biblical story and meeting the God revealed to us in the Bible. To accomplish this vision, several books have been published for adults, teens and children. The primary book for all ages is, The Story, and contains 31 accessible chapters that will sweep you into the unfolding progression of Bible characters and events from Genesis to Revelation. There is a book that can be read to young children as well as books for older children, teens and adults that can be read at home. Additional study aids are also available. All ages will be invited to engage this material at home, in worship, in our Sunday school program or small group. Please take a moment and check out our book display and see the books available for children, adolescents and adults.
How do I Participate in - The Story?
This campaign is designed to provide you with a variety of ways to participate that work for you as an individual and family.
Attend Worship
One way to participate is to continue to attend worship each week. Each week we will take one of the 31 key movements in the Bible to preach on in worship. In contemporary worship we will continue to have sermon series and in traditional worship you will continue to enjoy the strong Biblical preaching you love.
Reading at Home
A second way to participate is by reading at home in preparation for Sunday worship. We want to strongly encourage you to make a 31-week commitment to reading a chapter a week from The Story. Children, youth and adults will take so much more away from your Sunday morning experience if you have taken a little time to read and contemplate the story prior to worship.
Sunday School & Small Groups
A third way to participate in The Story is by joining a Sunday school class or small group Bible study. It is in the context of small groups that you will have the opportunity to share your insights and consider what others have learned from the same story. You will also experience the joy of meeting new people and sharing the joys and concerns that come your way during this season of your life.
Share with a Friend
A final way to participate in The Story is by sharing with a friend. Why not invite someone today to come join you on a journey through the Bible?
